Question by Bugged: We live in an apartment and have roach problems. EWW! How do we keep them from coming with us when we move?
I've never had roach problems before and have lived in many places. I know to keep it clean, and dry to keep them away but it has been impossible to keep them entirely out with living in an apartment. When my family moves at the end of this lease, we don't want them joining us by any eggs planted or something that we don't see. What should we do to make sure they don't come with us? Thanks for suggestions!

Our landlords will exterminate it but we are afraid to because we have 2 toddlers and an inside dog.

Question by mathuex08: I'm about to move out of a roach infested apartment. How can I avoid taking bugs with me?
I moved into an aparment about two months ago that is totally roach infested. I have fogged, used traps, sprayed, had orkin spray, used gel, and boric acid powder, and I still see roaches very often. The problem is so severe, I'm going to move to a new apartment that as far as I can tell right now, is totally roach free. How can I avoid taking roaches from here to the new place? I can open most of my stuff that is packed and I will wash everything, but what about all my books and just old picture albums and stuff I have packed away?

Question by MissMelissa: How do I get rid of fleas in the grass outside my apartment?
The dog has been treated with Frontline Plus, the carpet shampooed and treated with Raid flea killer, the bedding washed, and the dog sprayed with a natural flea spray.
I think he keeps getting re-infested due to fleas in the common areas outside my apartment where he goes potty. Should I try to treat these areas myself? What should I use? Is it the apartment manager's responsibility to take care of flea problems outside?

To rid your yard of fleas and flea eggs, buy some Tide with bleach laundry soap (powder) and sprinkle it lightly around your yard. Then, spray thoroughly with water. It will sterilize the eggs, and kill off the adults.

Sometimes they use a spray made with with chrysanthemums. I bet that is what they used. It is rather expensive compared to chemical sprays.

you usually find them anywhere they would find food. so anywhere you eat, or the bin maybe.
but generally its the people you live next to that have them. you can buy spray that goes around the edge of the home and stops them from coming in. if the house is yours, exterminate the place with bombs that go off in the roof and kills anything that shouldnt be there. if its not yours compalin to the owner and tell them about it. just dont say its been 3 otherwise they may not do it as 3 roaches isnt a problem.
but do your research when looking for a company as i got ripped off with mine..
good luck

Question by Kate: How can I tell if the apartment I'm about to rent has a roach problem?
I'm moving to Northern Virginia in a week or two and will be looking at apartments. Besides actually spotting roaches, are there any warning signs there is a roach problem? Will my chances of having roaches be less if I live in a high-rise? How else, besides cleaning obviously, can I avoid roach infestation?
Best answer:

Before moving into a new apartment, always get it pest controlled. High rise or not, if any part of the building is infested, you are sure to have roach problems. To ensure there are no roaches, visit the apartment at midnight and silently enter the kitchen or bathroom!

Question by angry: Is it possible to live roach-free in an apartment complex where others have roach problems?
I'm a student looking for an apartment. I found a place that looks good except a cople of reviews cite roach problems. If I frequently "bomb" (with those Raid fumigators) and maybe hire a monthly pest service in addition to the one provided, will I still have roaches?
Best answer:
Answer by Daniela G
yeah i think so i used to live in apartments and i would do everything to get rid of them and they would die and dissapear but a few weeks later i had them again.i guess its because mostly all apartments got them and roaches tend to go to one place to the other.so i really dont think they will be gone for good.

Question by JENNJENN: Is it safe to use Raid roach bombs in a apartment where a 10 mth old baby lives?
We have had some hurricanes hit our area last year and the roaches came and keep getting worse and worse. We bought some Raid roach bombs to use in our apartment but we are scared that the chemicals left over might affect our children ages 10, 3, and 10 mths..Please help we are desperate to get rid of them.

If you get the dry air bombs it is usually okay. They take about 2 hours to clear out (after how ever long it takes for the bomb to work).
A tip though is clear out any food you have in your house. I wouldn't recommend eating anything that was exposed to a bomb. Also leave all cabinets, dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, etc... open so there isn't any place for them to hid. Clean all surfaces (counters and floors) well after the bomb, vacuum carpet too. Read the package instructions first. They will usually say if it is safe for babies or not, how long it needs to air out before returning, etc..
I just moved into an apartment in September and right before I moved in my landlord said she found roaches in the place so she wanted to bomb them first. Well she didn't open any cabinets or anything and they were all still alive when I moved in. It totally freaked me out.
If you are looking for natural chemical free ways to get rid of roaches look at the link I posted below for some tips.
