Question by reporters should die: organic pest control for tomato plants?Suggestions?
I've been lucky I GUESS,BUT I always grow a beautiful garden,have never needed pesticides.This year,something is eating into my tomatos,just as they get red.I'd rather avoid pesticide use.Any natural suggestions?Thank you

use ashes ( from wood or paper burning ) mist them a lil to help it stick if i donsnt

grow carrots next them (in sand) carrots love tomatoes and strive in sand.put a piece of pencil in the ground near the carrots to prevent underground bugs
Remove the infected tomatoe including the soil and cover the rest with nets. The difficult thing with organic garden is you need to use different approach on different problems.
You could also try cayenne pepper mixed with water and garlic…blend well and spray onto plants…mine do rather well.
I have 6 tomatoe plants in pots….
You may want to find out what it is your trying to control first. One of the things that eat tomato’s when they begin to get red is birds and squirrels. Usually the squirrels get them when they are green. Birds get them when they begin to turn. Have your coffee out there and watch for a while. Birds will peck out a rather large hole on the side and you can look and tell it was a bird that did it like little beak prints all around the edge of the hole and the hole could be 1/4 of the tomato. One day its fine the next day big hole birds. If that’s the case get you some deer netting and cover them. Use deer netting because it is a lot cheaper than bird netting for your tomatoes but it is the same mesh and material.
mix up or buy a garlic & water spray
Look for a book on “Companion Planting” . If it’s an insect plant garlic next to your plants. If it appears to be something larger first look for the dreaded “Tomato Worm”. They are large, ugly, horned caterpillars and you can’t miss them.!! Pick all of them off (use tongs or needle nose pliars if you don’t want to touch them. Something was eating my tomatoes last season and I finally discovered that birds were eating them! I live in Phoenix and we were going through our usual 100 days without rain and they were looking for any source of moisture. I covered them with shade cloth and the problem was solved!!
