We live in an apartment and have roach problems. EWW! How do we keep them from coming with us when we move?
Question by Bugged: We live in an apartment and have roach problems. EWW! How do we keep them from coming with us when we move?
I've never had roach problems before and have lived in many places. I know to keep it clean, and dry to keep them away but it has been impossible to keep them entirely out with living in an apartment. When my family moves at the end of this lease, we don't want them joining us by any eggs planted or something that we don't see. What should we do to make sure they don't come with us? Thanks for suggestions!

Our landlords will exterminate it but we are afraid to because we have 2 toddlers and an inside dog.

report it to your real estate agent,or landlord, they are the
to see because as its THERE RESPONSABILITY to fumicate
the arpartment and clean the place up before your lease
runs out,if no response then go to real estate tribunal?
all the best.
Ugh! I had this problem years ago when we moved out a horrible apartment. If you have any thing in boxes now, you might want to consider shaking everything out and repacking giving the inside of the boxes a THICK coating of bug spray. Shake out all your bedding, books and papers, etc. before putting them in the boxes. Also open up your electronics and give them a good (but careful) cleaning. Roaches can get into the vents in your electronics and hitchhike that way. (There we in our VCR!) Seal EVERY possible gap and seal of the box with packing tape. Seriously! Everything! Consider putting things inside plastic bags inside boxes that have been sprayed. Clean and spray around baseboards at the new place and set out some traps. We did this method and only saw 2-3 bugs right after we moved in, killed them immediately and that was it! Good luck! (Oh and keep kids and pets away from where you are spraying of course!)
Bag everything up and get it somewhere freezing cold. This is not really the best time to do it, but when my first husband moved in with me we left all his stuff bagged up in the back of my truck for about 10 days in the winter and we never had a problem with roaches in our new place. Good luck!
YES< YES< YES< to the freezing. If you can get everything into the moving van and then keep it there during the freezing cold of the winter. (if you live somewhere like that) that will help. Stay at a freinds or in a hotel for a couple of days. I used to take care of people at halfway houses, and they would come with roaches , so we’d leave there stuff out on the porch overnight during the winter.
The other thing is fumigate right before you pack. I also made sure that the new place I moved was bombed. I bombed one place twice. and under the house. The ones for inside were the ones that you have to put them in water. and then I threw about 4 under the house(we had a crawl space) i locked it up tight as a drum, windows and everything and left for 2 days. Then I moved my stuff in. I should start a company that rents a drive in meat locker of this problem! Let people rent the meat locker for 2 days and deep freeze their stuff. HAAHAA Good $ $ $
