I’m about to move out of a roach infested apartment. How can I avoid taking bugs with me?
Question by mathuex08: I'm about to move out of a roach infested apartment. How can I avoid taking bugs with me?
I moved into an aparment about two months ago that is totally roach infested. I have fogged, used traps, sprayed, had orkin spray, used gel, and boric acid powder, and I still see roaches very often. The problem is so severe, I'm going to move to a new apartment that as far as I can tell right now, is totally roach free. How can I avoid taking roaches from here to the new place? I can open most of my stuff that is packed and I will wash everything, but what about all my books and just old picture albums and stuff I have packed away?

Why the hell did you move into the projects in the first place?

eeeww. move out then.
bad news, unless you sterilize your belongings with a lot of poisons, the roaches will come with you in the furniture and stuff, better to start over with new stuff rather than take the chance of carrying even one egg case with you.
I would get rid of anything that was on the floor for a number of days, have my couch cleaned and any fabrics that you have seen a cockroach on because they may have laid eggs. and then went to get to your new house I would know Layden were trapped in everything for a while until you’re quite sure that there is no cockroach problem in your new home.
you can’t,, even if you leave the roaches you will bring egg sacks along,,,HOWEVER,,, if you use ‘ROACH PRUF’ in your new place you can eventually get rid of them for good!! it is a powder that attaches to tem and falls off as they walk, mate, feed etc,,, it is very good stuff,,, it takes 2-3 weeks to work as they have to pass it on to the others,, and it kills the eggs too when they get close to the nest!! 28 YEARS NOW and no roaches since I first applied the stuff!!!
Wrap it up in plastic bags until you have time to look thru it piece by piece. That or maybe throw the bags into a freezer . Stuff won’t break if frozen…but should do a number on the potential bugs.
Burn all your stuff and byuy new. They are in everything you own and even if they are not they have laid eggs in everything.
They will be in your radios, tv or any other heat producing device as well as in clothes and under furniture. Use Roach pruf or other boric acid based poison and be patient, it will take a couple weeks to do the job, and DO NOT KILL any roach you see running acrossed the floor, they are taking the poison on thier legs and feet to share with the rest of the roaches, I know it’s hard not to kill them when you see them but don’t..
I would unpack your books, albums, etc. and put into plastic bins (roaches love cardboard boxes) before you move.
You will just have to have your new place treated by a professional if you see them at your new place. (As many have said before…they will attach egg sacks to everything, even furniture)
Professionals usually have a treatment plan where they will come in every so often and treat. I wouldn’t even try on my own. Some things are not worth saving a few bucks for.
Good luck!
You must move everything loosely nothing packed bomb the place. If you have a few days to play with move it into storage and bomb it a few more times treat the entire surrounding area! Meanwhile at the new place spray the entire outside doorways windows inside on floor around baseboards and dont mop for several days leave everything in the garage and move in 1 peice at a time and shake and vacuum all electric stuff they love warm! I did this one time and it worked I worked everybody worked! Good Luck! P S be sure to clean vacuum cleaner and throw away bag the love vacuums also!
You must line your house with boric acid powder. Then close up your house for 2 days and then see what happens..
I am definitely no roach expert, but I know they lay eggs, and they will follow you to your new place if you aren’t careful. Make sure you sterilize everything, and if you can, I would try to buy new stuff! Bleach and clean everything. Even if you were to kill a roach with a shoe, I’ve heard that the roach you just killed, will breed and lay its eggs wherever you go!!!! Yuck!
Good luck! I would throw away all the stuff I didn’t need! I think it is about time to do some spring cleaning.
DEFINITELY get all different cardboard boxes they crawl in the corrugated edges of the box and lay eggs basically you would be bringing boxes of roaches with you like you said go through everything especially if you have pictures hanging on the wall roaches might hide between the back of the picture and the backing board of the frame. At the new place if you see little dark spots on cabinets drawers walls light switches places like that clean it off immediately thats theirshit and there is a smell that attracts more to that spot hope this helps
