How can I keep the carpenter ants out of my kitchen cabinets?
What is the best thing to put down for those carpenter ants that are coming in now in the kitchen. I need something for the cabinets and counters
Are you sure they are carpenter ants and not sugar ants? First remove everything from the cupboards and wash them down with bleach and water. Next along the edges apply the Raid or other gel. It quite expensive , but it works. Also, if you know someone with a stethescope, I would suggest listening to the walls and doors around the cupboards, if they are carpenter ants you will hear them chewing, especially at night. If this is the case, then you need an exterminator.

GO to an Avon store and buy some Avon SSS, wipe cabinets down, ants are gone for the summer.

I realize this sounds strange, but, I have my own way of taking care of ants in the kitchen. I don’t want to put anything on the counters or into the cabinets that is poisonous. I spray these places with PAM for cooking (oil). The ants drop dead when they get into it, as it is oil……….and they can’t breath it. My counters and my cupboards stay poison free, but, I get rid of the ants.

20 Mule Team Borax Laundry soap, put it in one of the cheap squeeze ketchup bottles that you can buy at any dollar store, apply it along the back of the counter, around the baseboards of your kitchen cabinets and around where the plumbing comes in under the kitchen sink, you can also apply a thin line on the back of the shelves, leave it lay until you no longer see any signs of the ants then vacuum up the excess laundry soap, the ant will carry it back to their nest and it will kill them plus you have the rest of the laundry soap to wash your clothes with…good luck…

I use Terro Ant Killer (found at Hardware stores) for sugar ants in my cabinets. Keep away from children & pets. This may work for carpenter ants also.
